A gift of blood is a gift of life ♥

Hello tharr reader! ♥

It's the month of September already and that means it's Christmas soon! Time sure flies so fast, eh? xD (Yet I haven't posted my 18th bday blog post and how the osm surprise party went. Will do, SOON.) Because I'm feeling a little hungry right now, I'll try to make this post concise. (wow! word.) Hopefully. HAHA!

The Philippine National Red Cross came to school for a blood-donation thingy last September 2nd, 2010. Since I'm already 18, healthy and kind and caring (MUHA!) I donated my blood. ♥ I feel like I've done some heroic deed just by donating blood. *proud* Here are some of the pics I took AFTER the donation:

I wasn't able to snap pics during the actual donation. ;)

Oh, the blood donation had a process. Of course, it would've been chaotic if it didn't have. Meh. Hahaha! So, the first thing I did was to scan the crowd. LOL WHUT? Well yes, I did scan the crowd to know if there were many blood donors and if the needle will hurt the moment it hit my precious gorgeous skin. HAHAHA! Then I asked the Nurse attendant for the registration section how long will it take to donate blood. She replied roughly 30 mins. (This according to her includes the resting phase. I checked my time and within 5 mins I was able to "extract" a bag of blood from my system) *insert cheeky grin here* WOW. My first class in the afternoon just ended at 1:30pm and my next class was at 3pm. I have an hour and a half free time! xDDDDDDDDDD

So there. I started donating blood. But I was just kidding. =)

The next thing I did after scanning the crowd and asking how long will the blood donation take was to have my weight checked. Yes, for some weird and unknown purposes. I may not have heard what the Nurse's explanation about standing above a weighing scale was but seriously, I hate the fact that I weigh a friggin' 55 kgs. BMI may have been normal but still! lol. Insecurities. LMAO.

Anyways, after the weighing thing I filled a form up. And honestly, the questions we're silly I was laughing all through out. But it wasn't funny as in lame or useless. I simply find some of the questions funny. Enough said. After signing the form, I went back to the Nurse and had my blood pressure checked. And guess what? It was a 110/70~ Mom says I'm prone to having high-blood pressure. LMAO. So that means no more 3-in-1 coffee for me? *cries* Wait, honestly I don't know if there's a link that connects high-blood pressure and coffee. *shrugs*

Moving on, I moved to the next personnel in-charge and the next think I knew I was squirming in mild pain at my seat.

The second Nurse got this tube with needles on it and then she was like; "This may hurt a tad bit. Brace yourself". Hokay, that was my inner thoughts talking. Hehe~ Well yes, she did get a needle from this certain tube thing and she prick my left ring-finger. It was a really quick prick and then bam! I saw blood. Did Ikyangie fainted? No. *smug* The Nurse then used another tube to suck some blood that gushed out from my finger. Then she grabbed a glass slide and started making circles like this:

She did some circling motions until the glass slide had 2 circle of blot like blood "mark" on it. (Seriously, it's hard to describe in English haha!) The Nurse then put some blue liquid substance on the first blot then a yellow liquid substance on the other. Afterwards, she labeled my form with "B" which means my blood type. I moved on to another Nurse attendant and he asked few questions then viola! I'm getting ready to donate a bag of 450ml blood!

The Nurse who facilitated my blood donation was really talkative. haha! Well, it did work. She told me stuffs about blood like once the person lost 2L of blood he/she may be difficult to revive (or sth like that) I mean, it was obvious she was trying to start a convo so that the donors won't get scared or sth because if they(donors) kind of react to the process oppositely, there might be a mishap and then boom! the donor is dead. But thank god no one died. ^^

Lookat how big the "hole" is. X)
this is how the "hole" after the nurse did the blood extraction. (however you call that "blood-sucking" process, you get drift). It was as big as the mole in my arm. o____o but twas fun. ♥

Donating a blood for the first time was really fun. Now I can truly say that the best thing about being an 18 year old is you get to do things without your parents' consent and a parents' permit. HAHAHA! I know I shouldn't use my being an 18yo an excuse to do ridiculous stuff but I'm not saying donating blood is a ridiculous thing to do. In fact, I find it fulfilling. ♥

I was scared, yes. Everybody was. But I eventually thought I'm actually saving people just by doing this. I did not donate blood just to be labeled cool, kind, generous and etc. I did it wholeheartedly. I may not be able to join the Milo Marathon this Sunday (in which I did my best just to be able to beat the deadline of registration but failed. I even swore last year that I will do everything just to be able to join the 34th Milo Marathon) but nah, I donated blood instead so YAY! I thought it was like, a bargain. =)) AND the bargain was worth it. In Milo Marathon, I could've donated a pair of shoes to little children. But donating blood is saving life. ^___________^V

Hokay, here's the picsssss:

my Membership card! ♥
i just hope my blood won't get rejected or sth, lol.

the inside of the Membership Card shows how many times I have donated. As you can see, its my first time. The Nurse said I can get blood at the Red Cross in case I will need one free from the Screening Fee. YAY!

"A gift of blood is a gift of life."

And of course, stupid out of this world pics for camwhoring. xD

Eerie. lol

personally, I like this pic. ♥

i look like a zombie, lol. fail eyeliners + pale look = gorgeous zombie.
HAHAHAHAH! but hey, lookie at my Red Cross arm band. woot!

The Nurse who facilitated my blood donation said she's hoping to come back at school January of next year. If Phil. Red Cross will come back next year, I will donate again. = ) Okay, this would be all for now. Hopefully I can post something tomorrow (or later since its 3AM now. FML) xD
